Frederick Alfred Jackson 2018

Frederick Alfred Jackson, 81, passed away at his home in Rancho Palos Verdes on May 26, 2018. Fred was born on November 3, 1936 to Alfred and Jean Jackson in Hamtramck, Michigan. Fred graduated from the University of Michigan in 1959 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Aerospace Engineering. He was commissioned as a 2nd Lieutenant in the United States Air Force and married the love of his life, Mary Jo, that same year. He managed pioneering rocket programs at Edwards Air Force Base and was promoted to 1st Lieutenant. He then enjoyed a 33-year career at Space Technology Laboratories/TRW, holding challenging leadership roles in space propulsion, high energy lasers for missile defense and space observatories. Fred loved to travel and enjoyed wine, sailing, golf, family and church. We were blessed to have him as our family patriarch. We love and miss him dearly. Fred was preceded in death by his father Alfred, mother Jean and brother Alfred. He is survived by his sister Eileen, wife Mary Jo; son Joseph, his wife Barbara, their son Robert and daughter Jenna; son Jeffery, his wife Susie, their daughter Elaine and son Devin; and son Gregory. A celebration of Fred’s life will be held at Holy Trinity Catholic Church on Saturday, June 2, 2018 at 12:30 pm. Interment will be private. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the University of Michigan College of Engineering or Holy Trinity Building Fund. Please sign the guestbook at mcnerneysmortuary.com.
