Obituary for Jerry W. Stuckey
Jerry W. Stuckey, 75, of Martinsburg, was called to be with God in his forever home on April 1, 2018. Born on January 13th, 1943 to Mildred and Bon Stuckey, he lived his life in Martinsburg and can be remembered by many as an outstanding Martinsburg High School athlete and quick witted jokester, which makes his departing this life on April 1, all the more ironic and special.
He was a graduate of Shepherd College and spent time teaching school and as an employee of the Department of Welfare before landing at the VA Medical Center as a kinesiologist in corrective therapy, where he spent his career. He also joined the 167th Air National Guard in December of 1965 serving in various capacities including commander of the Security Police Squadron and Mission Support Squadron. He retired from the 167th as a LTC in December 1994.
He had many side jobs and hobbies throughout his life from selling Christmas trees, cutting firewood, and buying and selling antiques, to fishing, rabbit hunting, bluegrass music, Barney Fife, and the Orioles. His best memories were spent laughing with family and friends. He could always make you laugh.
He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Gloria Jane (Martin) Stuckey; daughter, Kelli Stuckey; granddaughter, Sara Tephabock; sister, Joyce Triggs, and a number of brothers in law, sisters in law, cousins, nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and several of his wonderful canine companions including Banjo and Hobo.
A friendship gathering to celebrate Jerry’s life will be held Sunday April 8, from 3-5 p.m. at Burke Street Elementary School. The family asks that in lieu of flowers, donations be made in his name to Panhandle Action for Animals, 8637 Tuscarora Pike, Martinsburg, WV 25403.
