Obituary for Emily Blackburn (Lips)
Emily Blackburn, aged 102 years, of Temple passed from this life on Tuesday, March 20, 2018 at a local nursing facility. She was born on the 19th day of November 1915 in Heidenheimer, Texas to Ernest and Rosa (Krause) Lips.
In her younger years Emily attended the Texas Teachers College in San Marcos, Texas, now known as Texas State University, in which she would earn her teachers certificate. She would spend the next several years of her life teaching children until 1940 when she married Robert “Skeeter” Blackburn in June of that year. Emily and Skeeter would be married for the next 39 years until his death in 1979. Emily was a member of the First Lutheran Church in Temple and has been a resident of the Bell County area for her entire life.
Emily is preceded in death by her husband Robert, her parents Ernest and Rosa as well as one brother Arnold Lips and 2 sisters Eda Knowles and Avis Henson.
Emily leaves behind to cherish her memory her nieces Dianita (Lips) Driver, Rachel (Lips) and husband Bob Martin, Billie (Henson) Thompson as well as her nephew Rick and wife Mari Henson.
Services will be held on Saturday, March 31, 2018 at 11 AM at Hillcrest Cemetery in Temple with Reverend Russell Campbell officiating.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Hewett-Arney Funeral Home of Temple.
