Barbara Jean Sweeny Sophia, 82 of Brazoria, passed from this life on Sunday, April 1, 2018. She was born on March 15, 1936 in Bay City, Texas to Stanley and Annie (Hayes) Sweeny. Barbara was a direct descendant of John Sweeny, who founded the City of Sweeny. She loved spending time with her family and grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, April 5, 2018 at 11:00 am at Baker Funeral Home in West Columbia with Emil Schmidt of Gulf Coast Bible Church officiating. Burial… Read More » will follow at Cedar Lawn Haven of Rest. Visitation will be held from 10:00 am until service time on Thursday. Serving as pallbearers are Jim Barnes, Steve Small, Colton Pannell, John Joice, Mike Rydman, and Melvin (Peanut) Sweeny. Honorary pallbearers will be Craig Barnes, Trent Sophia, Ryan Pannell, Carl Roberts, Jim Garza, and Doug Merritt.
Barbara is survived by her husband, Lawrence “Jack” Sophia; daughters, Sharon Barnes of Cedar Park, Barbara Sophia of West Columbia; daughter in law, Roxanne Sophia of Churchill; granddaughters, Melissa Pannell (Colton) of Aledo, Jeanna Small (Steve) of West Columbia, and Ashley Sophia of Brazoria; grandsons, Craig Barnes of Cedar Park and Trent Sophia of Brazoria; great-granddaughters, Amber Foreman, Kayla Galbreath, Kaurtnei Gartman, Kyndall Stark, Katelynn Pannell, and Nichole Small; great-grandson, Ryan Pannell; great-great-granddaughter, Natalie Hernandez; sisters, Edna Joice and Joyce Dorsett; along with numerous nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Stanley and Annie Sweeny; son, Larry Sophia; grandson, Tony Foreman; sister, Clara Dorsett; and brother, Melvin “Bud” Sweeny.
