Obituary for Floyd Edward Allen
Conway…. Dr. Floyd Edward Allen, age 82 died Tuesday, April 3, 2018.
Dr. Allen was born in Conway, a son of the late James Burroughs and Mae Revels Allen. He was a graduate of Conway High School, Presbyterian College and the Southern College of Optometry. Dr. Allen was a member of the First Baptist Church of Conway. He was an Optometrist in Conway for over 45 years. He was preceded in death by his wife, Pamela Grace Griffin Allen and a brother, Major General James Burroughs Allen, Jr. Dr. Allen retired from the US Army in 1995 as a Colonel. He received the Meritorious Service Medal, the Army Achievement Medal, the Army Commendation Medal, the National Defense Medal, the Foreign Service Ribbon, the Army Reserve Medal and the Army Reserve Achievement Medal. Dr. Allen was an avid tennis player.
Surviving are two sons, David George Allen (Angel) of Murrells Inlet, SC and Bryan Edward Allen of Myrtle Beach; a daughter, Pamela Michelle Allen McDowell of Conway; four grandchildren, Andrew Scott McDowell, Dylan Gray McDowell, Emily Grace Allen and Autumn Brooke Allen; one brother, John Julian Allen (Shirlee) of Galivants Ferry, SC; a sister, JoAnn Hall of Florence, SC and a sister in law, JoLynn Allen of Columbia, SC. and many other family and friends.
Memorial services will be held at 2:00 PM Sunday at First Baptist Church of Conway with Rev. Scott Johnson officiating. Burial will follow in Hillcrest Cemetery.
The family will receive friends in the church parlor from 1:00 until 2:00 PM Sunday.
