Joan (Jodie) Wyland passed away April 6 at Hospice House in Bend. She was 94. She was preceded in death by her parents, James Raymond and Emily Hardy Stewart, her brother Charles, her loving husband of 49 years, Robert (Bob) Wyland, and her eldest son, James (Gary). She is survived by her son Stewart, daughter Suzanne, five grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. Jodie was born Joan Alden Stewart in Topeka, Kansas and met the love of her life, Bob. They were married in 1943. Bob was just beginning his career as an airline pilot for Pan American World Airways, and they started out on a life of many moves and great adventure. They traveled the country and the world together and created wonderful memories for themselves and their children. Jodie was the quintessential stay-at-home mom and was dedicated to her family. With Bob away on trips much of the time, she had to be both father and mother and was wonderful at it. She was actively involved in her children’s lives, working various church and school events and fundraisers, scorekeeping for little league and serving as den mother for the Cub Scouts, just to name a few. She was a lover of music, playing piano and singing in the church choir for many years. She continued to sing at every opportunity up until her death. Jodie and Bob made their retirement home in Bend for many years and enjoyed social activities as members of the Bend Golf and Country Club. After Bob’s death of cancer in 1993, Jodie moved to northern California for a few years before returning to Bend. As a result of some health issues, she lived at Touchmark for the last four years. Jodie was a sweet, beautiful woman with an amazing sense of humor who leaves behind a loving family and friends who will share wonderful memories of her for years to come. Memorial services will be held at 1PM on Saturday, April 14 at Trinity Episcopal Church in Bend.
