William S Bill Roemer 1942 2018

Obituary of William Roemer William S Roemer, 75, of Jasper, New York, passed away suddenly at St James Mercy Hospital in Hornell on Monday, April 16th 2018. Bill was born in Wilmington, Delaware on July 17th 1942. He was the son of the late Merle and Catharine Shakespeare Roemer. Bill was raised and attended school in Newark, Delaware. Following two years of college study, he entered the US Army where he served for over 25 years, from 1964 to 1989, retiring with the rank of Colonel. He served in Vietnam as well as South Korea. He was wounded in Vietnam but would not accept a Purple Heart as a way to honor those who gave much more there than he. While in the military he studied law and was a graduate of the Delaware Law School. Following retirement from the military, he practiced law in Pennsylvania, eventually specializing in juvenile law as a defense attorney. On April 5th 2002 he married Linna Zhang in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania. Bill loved the rural life and he and Linna decided on moving to Jasper where there is a large Amish community, a lifestyle that he enjoyed and emulated. He established very strong ties with his Amish neighbors after settling in Jasper. Bill was a very astute individual and his intellect and wit were admired by all that knew him. After moving to Jasper, he attended seminary training in Rochester and was an ordained minister. Bill is survived by his wife Linna of Jasper, his daughter Catharine Roemer, his grandson Josiah and his sister, Karen Cronin. He was preceded in death by his brother Merle Roemer. Burial will be held privately at the convenience of the family. Arrangements are with the HP Smith and son Incorporated Funeral Home of Woodhull New York
