Obituary for Jacob “Jack” Sydney Garnaat Jack went to meet his Lord and Savior on April 4, 2018. He was the son of John and Hattie (Koops) Garnaat and born at Spring Lake, MI. on June 27, 1925. He attended Lake Odessa High School until having to join the Army in 1943 in World War II. He served his country overseas in the 30th Infantry Division during the Battle of the Bulge and received a Honorable discharge in 1946. He met his sweetheart after returning home from the war and she later became his wife on August 21, 1948. He attended Coyne Electrical School in Chicago, IL and worked as an electrician in Muskegon for a time. He worked for the U. S. Post Office for 17 years, then worked for Electric companies around Lansing. Later going to work for Fisher-Body Division and retired from there in 1991. Jack was active in Indian Guides at the YMCA. He enjoyed working with the Boy Scouts of America as a Scout Master and also a Cubmaster. Jack was an active member of Colonial Village Baptist Church. He enjoyed woodworking and made many gifts for his family and friends. He liked reading, working puzzles and traveling. He and Elaine spent many winters at their home in Florida. He is survived by his wife of 69 years, Elaine; daughter, Dana Sue Garnaat of Holt; 3 sons, Richard (Laura) Garnaat of Benzonia, MI, Douglas (Nancy) Garnaat of Charlotte, Mi and Mark (Donna) Garnaat of Lewisville, TX; 8 grandchildren, Richard, II, Eric, Kyle, Joshua, and Matthew Garnaat Kimberley Ethridge, and Jessica Woolworth; 8 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews; sisters-in-law, Joanne and Elaine Allarding and brother-in-law, George Jansen. Jack was preceded in death by his parents; step mother, Reka Garnaat; great granddaughter, Ana Maria Mendoza; brothers Henry and David Garnaat; sister, Marie Jansen. Visitation is from 3:00-5:00 P.M. Sunday in the Tiffany Funeral Home, 3232 W. Saginaw, Lansing. Funeral Services will be 11:00 A.M. Monday at Colonial Village Baptist Church, 2010 Boston Blvd. Lansing with Pastor H. Randolph Morgan officiating. Viewing will be 10-11 A.M. Monday at church. Interment Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Colonial Village Baptist Church, Lansing City Rescue Mission or Youth For Christ.
