Obituary for Eugene L. ” Gene ” Cole Mr. Eugene L. “Gene” Cole, age 87, passed away Saturday morning, April 14, 2018, in Fruitport. Gene was born August 19, 1930 in Muskegon to Charles and Dena (DeFrell) Cole, and had lived his entire life in the Muskegon area. He had worked at Michigan Consolidated Gas Co. for over 25 years prior to retiring in 1989. He was a longtime member of the Polish Union. Gene was an avid hunter and fisherman. Whenever he could, he would head to Ludington and spend time at his Hamlin Lake getaway. Gene had a lifelong love of horses. He also enjoyed camping, built several homes and enjoyed auctions, but foremost was always the good times spent with his family. SURVIVORS include his children, Linda (Rick) Miller, Mary Beth (John) Cox, Dan (Catherine Walker) Cole and Randy (Mary) Cole; 8 grandchildren, Renee, Dawn, Josh, Michael, Lee, Luke, Louie and Sandra. He is also survived by 7 great-grandchildren; his special friend, Marva Ortquist and her loving family; nephew, Tommy (Sharon) Cole and his niece, Joann (Larry) Yoder. Gene was preceded in death by his brothers, Irving and Russell. A MEMORIAL SERVICE will be held at 1 PM on Thursday, April 19, 2018 at The Lee Chapel, 6291 S. Harvey St. (231) 798-1100 with Rev. John Brown officiating. VISITATION will be held from 5-8PM Wednesday evening at the funeral home. Memorial contributions in Gene’s name may be directed to Harbor Hospice.
