Scarborough Maine Jane Woodland Bellevue of Scarborough, Maine died peacefully Tuesday, April 24, 2018, after a long battle with Alzheimers and Dementia. She was born in Melrose, Massachusetts on June 21, 1931, the daughter of Lester N. and Grace T. Woodland, both deceased, of Melrose. She was the widow of Robert W. Bellevue who died in October of 1983. Jane graduated from Melrose High School in 1949 and from Kathleen Dell Secretarial School in Brookline, Massachusetts, in 1951. She was a member of Kappa Delta Psi, since 1948. In 1945, she became a member of the First Congregational Church in Melrose and after moving to Maine, she attended the United Baptist Church in Saco. Until her retirement in 1983, Jane and her late husband, Robert, owned and operated The Grove, Capn’ Bob’s and the Pine Point Clam Cake Company in Scarborough for 25 years. They enjoyed spending their winters in Daytona Beach, FL. She was an active volunteer at the Maine Medical Center from 1975-79 and at the University of Southern Maine in Gorham. Following her retirement from the restaurant business, she worked 8 years as a Volunteer Coordinator at the Jewish Home for the Aged, which became Cedars, in Portland. She later worked for several years as a Certified Active Coordinator for St. Andre’s Health Care Facility in Biddeford. She was also an active volunteer for the Ocean Park Association. In addition, she was a member of the Retired Seniors Volunteer Program, the Maine Audubon Society, The Jewish Home for the Aged, the Ocean Park Association and the Red Hat Society. Family always came first with Jane; she a “people person”. She loved the beach, the coast of Maine, enjoyed walking the various nature trails in southern Maine and was an avid animal lover. Among her travels, she visited England, Holland, Canada, Alaska and the West Coast. Her hobbies included knitting, quilting, crocheting, rug hooking, puzzles and crosswords. She was predeceased by her brother, John T. Woodland of Boston, cousins Nancy W. Jackman of Ocean Park and Ted Wells of Milton, Massachusetts and a niece, Vicki Tibbetts of Old Orchard Beach. “Aunt Jane”, as she was fondly called by many is survived by Barry Jackman and his wife Lynne of Saco, Kenneth Jackman and his wife Pam of Damariscotta, Audrey Jackman Cabral and her husband Daniel of Saco, Jonathan Wells and his wife Evangeline of Ocean Park, brother-in-law Jack Bellevue and wife Maryann of Santa Barbara, CA, sister-in-law Arlene Hanson of Old Orchard Beach, sister-in-law Carol Mengert of PA, Christine Bard and her family and many nieces and nephews. The family would like to thank the staff at Scarborough Terrace and Beacon Hospice for their care and support. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Jane’s name to Alzheimers Research Foundation, Dana Farber Cancer Institute, Beacon Hospice and/or the Animal Refuge League of Greater Portland. A celebration of Jane’s life will be at the Old Orchard Beach Funeral Home, 36 Portland Avenue, Old Orchard Beach, Maine Thursday, May 10, 2018, from 4-7pm. A service will be held during calling hours at 6pm. She will be laid to rest in the family plot at 11:00AM, Friday, May 11, 2018, in Laurel Hill Cemetery in Saco.
