Elizabeth A. De Letter, 90, of La Porte passed away peacefully Saturday, April 14, 2018 surrounded by family in her home. She was born January 13, 1928 in Heerhugowaard, Netherlands, the ninth child of eleven to her parents, Joannes and Cornelia Oudhuis. She immigrated to the United States in 1957 and became a U.S. citizen. Elizabeth married Michel De Letter, an immigrant from Belgium, at St. Joseph Catholic Church, July 25, 1959. Elizabeth loved her family and taught her children the value of supporting each other. She enjoyed family camping vacations and hiking outdoors. Often times she would use her sewing skills to help out people for a variety of reasons. She loved to bake, travel, and enjoyed time with family and friends. Surviving are her husband, Michel De Letter of La Porte; four children, Paul De Letter of Lexington KY, Michelle Nelson of Spring Valley, MN, Bernadette Gordon of Greenfield, IN and Eric De Letter of La Porte, IN; and one brother, Siemon Oudhuis of Tuitjenhorn, Netherlands. Elizabeth is also blessed with seven grandchildren. Elizabeth is preceded in death by her five sisters, Anna, Cornelia, Gertruda, Catherina, and Maria; and four brothers, Johannes, Siemon, Adriannes and Jacobes. A Memorial Mass will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, April 21, 2018 at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 109 C St., La Porte, with Rev. Jaime Perea officiating. Visitation will be held from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m., Friday, April 20, 2018 at Lakeview Funeral Home & Crematory, 247 W. Johnson Rd., La Porte. Please send condolences to the family at www.LakeviewFHC.com.
