Obituary for Celeste Johnstone Mrs. Celeste Johnstone (née Kearney) of Hinsdale IL, passed away on Monday, April 23, 2018. Celeste was born to parents Edward and Eleanor Kearney (née Downs) on April 02, 1927 in Western Springs, IL. Celeste was the youngest of three girls and was graduated from Nazareth High School in 1945. She met her “honey”, James Johnstone, while ice skating. They married in 1953. The couple spent the majority of their married life living in his home town of Summit, IL. Celeste’s special interests were many but included women’s issues, politics, environmental issues and community service. Her contributions to her communities included: a tree planting initiative, advocacy for stop lights and volunteering with the La Grange Community Nurses Association. Her hobby was traditional rug hooking which combined her love of history with her talent to create something beautiful from nothing. The last of her generation, she is preceded in death by her husband, sisters, Eleanor Kearney and Rita Rucklic, and her parents. She survived by her son Paul Johnstone, daughter-in-law Meriona Campion, daughter Carol Johnstone and partner David McGuire, and her sole granddaughter Olivia Riccio. Please join the family to celebrate Celeste’s light and life on Saturday, April 28, 2018 between 1:00 p.m. and 3:30 p.m. at Foran Funeral Home, 7300 West Archer Avenue, Summit IL, 60501. A memorial service will begin at 2:30 p.m. Celeste has requested that her remains be cremated and interred with her husband James at Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery during a private funeral.
