Obituary for Grady E. “Ed” Turner Jr. Grady E. “Ed” Turner, Jr. died April 7, 2018 at home at the age of 82. He was born on June 15, 1935 in Shelby, N.C. to Grady Edwin Turner and Mildred Wilson Turner who predeceased him. He graduated from Shelby High School in 1953 and then entered the U.S. Navy riding submarines for two years and then working at the Pentagon for two years. After discharge, he was a tennis pro at resorts in Virginia and Arizona, and then built houses for a couple of years. In 1964 he joined Marion Laboratories, a pharmaceutical firm in Kansas City. He was a district manager for twenty-one years before becoming the professional relations manager for the Eastern U.S. He retired in 1988 and then opened two pawn shops, which are now owned and operated by his son and son-in-law. Ed was a faithful member of Ebenezer United Methodist Church, serving as lay leader for two years. He was a member of Betty Hammonds Sunday School class and Prime Timers. Survivors include his loving wife, Susan Wright Turner of Oxford, GA; son, Grady Edwin Turner III of Covington, GA; daughter, Deidre Turner Slifko and husband Paul of Conyers, GA; daughter Shena Turner Prince and husband Eric of Covington, GA; daughter-in-law Kathi Cunningham Turner of Covington, GA; as well as grandchildren, Chelsie Slifko Gruber and husband Nathan, Kaitlin Turner Burkett and husband Danny, Savanah Segrest, Anna Grace Slifko, Grayson Segrest and Shelby Segrest; and great granddaughter Autumn Burkett. Step-children are Brian Bright of Howe, TX; Karen Bright of McDonough, GA; Timothy Bright and wife Julia Kerr of Fort Collins, CO. Step-grandchildren include Timothy Bright, Jack Bright and Lyla Bright. He is also survived by his beloved sister, Betty Weaver of Shelby, NC and numerous loving extended family members. Ed also considered himself “Papa” to many of God’s “critters” that he fed faithfully. Services will be held on Thursday, April 12, 2018 at 11:00 am at Ebenezer United Methodist Church, 2533 Stanton Road, Conyers, GA 30094 with Reverend Chris Branscomb officiating and Paul Slifko delivering the eulogy. Visitation will follow the service. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to Ebenezer United Methodist Church.
