Obituary for Buford Lockman (Courtesy) (Courtesy) Pastor Joseph Buford Lockman, 83, husband of 62 years to Joan Dove Lockman, died Friday, April 6, 2018. Born in Jackson County, Buford was the son of the late Grady and Montine Archer Lockman. Early in his ministry, Buford served as Pastor at Baptist Tabernacle of Commerce, Center Baptist Church in Jackson County, Bluestone Baptist Church in Danielsville, Hannah’s Creek Baptist Church in Royston, Lone Oak Baptist Church in Eatonton and Sugar Creek Baptist Church in Madison. Since January 1, 1962 he has served as Pastor of Whitehall Baptist Church and served as Pastor Emeritus following his retirement in 2016. Buford had worked for Lord and Stephens Funeral Home since 1992. In addition to his wife Joan, survivors include one son: Joe (Ronda) Lockman of Watkinsville; grandchildren: Amanda (Brian) Pierce, Savannah Lockman; grandchildren: Amberly Ford and Blaize Wyatt Pierce and dear friend Connie Tippett. Funeral services will be held Sunday, April 8, 2018 at 3PM at Whitehall Baptist Church with Rev. John Ingham, Jimmy Edwards and Dennis Cook officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 at the funeral home Saturday, April 7, 2018.
