Obituary of Joan Smith
NORFOLK—Funeral services for 82 year old Joan M. Smith, a resident of 3407 St. Highway 310, Norfolk, will be held at a later date at the Norfolk Methodist Church. Joan passed away unexpectedly on March 26, 2018 at the Canton-Potsdam Hospital. Joan is survived by a daughter, Deborah Baxter, Norfolk; three grandchildren, Chris Baxter Jr., Shannon LaBrake and Trace Baxter; her seven great grandchildren and five great-great grandchildren. Joan is also survived by her brother, Athel H. Brown Jr., Norfolk and her two sisters, Myrna Brown, Massena and Keitha Henry, Norfolk. She was pre-deceased by her husband, Pete just last July 24, 2017 and a sister, Betty Dean.
Born in Norfolk, NY on November 3, 1935 to the late Athel H. Brown Sr. and Lena Cantwell, Joan worked at several restaurants, waitressing and bartending. In her later years, she drove school bus for the Norwood-Norfolk Central School District. Joan enjoyed shopping and loved to go fishing, camping and taking trips to the casino.
