Obituary of Allen Young
Allen R. Young, 96, formerly of Lakewood, died Sunday March 25, 2018, in Michigan where he resided since 1995.
He was born April 3, 1921, in Jamestown, a son of the late Gilbert and Bertha Abrahamson Young.
He was a 1939 graduate of Jamestown High School and was a WWII veteran of the US Army Air Corps serving the Pacific Theater.
Prior to his retirement he was employed by Sears where he was known as “Mr. Hardware.” He earlier had worked for Jamestown Metal Manufacturing and Young’s Cleaners.
He was a member of Bethel Lutheran Church and most recently St. Michael Lutheran church in Canton, MI.
Surviving is a daughter Deborah (Brian) Abbey of Brighton, MI; six grandchildren: Randie (Mike) Kohler, Taylor (Josh)Clark and Blake, Don (Mel), Tracy (Sheri) and Jason Abbey; seven great grandchildren.
Besides his parents he was preceded in death by his wife A. Fay Leckey Young, whom he married September 4, 1948 and who died August 4, 1994 and two brothers Don and Kent Young and sister Patricia Kinney.
The funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday in the Lind Funeral Home.
Burial will be in Sunset Hill Cemetery.
Friends will be received for one hour prior to the service in the funeral home.
Memorials may be made to Bethel Lutheran Church, 904 W 3rd St, Jamestown, NY 14701, St. Michael Lutheran Church, 700 N Sheldon Rd., Canton, MI 48187, and Southern Care Hospice, Livonia, MI.
