William R. “Woody” Campbell, longtime resident of Edison passed away on Thursday, July 14th at home. He was 85. Born in Somerset, he has lived in Edison since 1950. Woody worked as a String Maker for the Black Diamond Musical String Corporation in New Brunswick before working as a Metal Worker at the Riverside Auto & Salvage Yard in Rahway before his retirement. Woody deeply loved and cared for his family, helping to raise his many nieces and nephews then later their children. He also enjoyed word puzzle books and watching NY Giants football and western movies. He was predeceased by his parents, Floyd & Sarah Campbell; brothers, Robert and Richard Campbell; and sisters, Doris Fraind and Dorothy Tomori. Surviving are his brothers, Floyd Sr. of Edison, Charles of Edison, Walter of North Carolina, Jack of Edison, Kenneth of Whiting, Carl of Edison, Douglas of Monroe Township, and his nieces Sally and Cathy, and nephew Jimmy, who were also caregivers; and many other loving nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. Visitation will be held on Monday, July 18th from 4 to 8 PM at the Gleason Funeral Home, 1360 Hamilton Street, Somerset.
