William “David” Phelps, age 69, of Springfield passed away Friday, December 16, 2022 at Select Specialty Hospital in Nashville. Graveside services will be conducted at 3pm Tuesday, December 20, 2022 in EverRest of Cheatham with Mr. Chip Pitzer officiating. The family will receive friends from 10am until 2pm Tuesday at the Austin & Bell Funeral Home in Springfield. Mr. Phelps was born April 8, 1953 in St. Albans, VA, was a U.S. Army veteran, and was a machinist for a Tool and Die company for many years. David was preceded in death by his father, Don Phelps; sister, Linda Jones; and aunts, who were like mothers to him, Verdie Stiltner, Alice Brookover, Eleanor Griffin and Elma Phelps. He is survived by his wife of 29 years, Becky Phelps; aunt/mother, Mary J. Watts; nieces, Misty (Chip) Pitzer, Alex Friend and Lisa Young Epperly; nephew, David Cockrell Jr.; mother-in-law, Helen Pearson; father-in-law, Bobby Plunkett; goddaughter, Makayla Dowlen; best friend, Joe Gordon; his cousins who were like brothers and sisters; his great nieces and nephews, and 2 great great nephews who brought him much joy. He had great friends and considered himself blessed. Austin & Bell Funeral Home in Springfield is in charge of these arrangements.
