Ward Cameron Huier, 79 years of age, of Holdrege, Nebraska, died on Friday, October 28, 2022, at the Kearney Regional Medical Center in Kearney, Nebraska. Ward was born on March 17, 1943, in Detroit, Michigan, the younger of two children, born to George and Merrilyn (Gilmore) Huier. Ward was raised in Detroit and attended Denby High School. Ward fibbed about his age and enlisted into the United States Army and later completed his high school education in the Army. Ward served two years in Germany and was honorably discharged. He later pursued higher education from Charles Stewart Mott Community College in Michigan and earned an Associate Degree in Computer Science. On April 20, 1963, Ward was united in marriage to Ann Shields at the St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Cheboygan, Michigan. The family made their home in Swartz Creek, Michigan. The couple later divorced, and Ward made his home in Lansing, Michigan, where he worked at General Motors, as a Parts Inspector and later as a Foreman in Quality Control. Ward was married to Barbara Cafmeyer from 1975 to 1977. Following 30 years at General Motors, he retired in 1993 and then moved back to Cheboygan, to care for his mother. He also enjoyed watching football with his son, Scott, on football weekends; bowling and achieving three perfect games; playing ping-pong at the YMCA in Holdrege, where he was city champion; woodworking; going to the casino; playing Texas Holdem with his family; playing with his dog, LB; and enjoying a cup of coffee with his daughter. He loved to keep his truck looking sharp and enjoyed polishing it. In 2010, Ward moved to Holdrege to be closer to family. He met Suzanne Blank and they were married on March 12, 2012, in Holdrege. Together they enjoyed going to the casinos, watching movies, getting together with families, playing ping-pong with friends, and cooking together. Ward had the heart of a child and enjoyed having fun and stayed active his whole life. Ward was preceded in death by a son, Wesley in infancy; father, George Huier; mother, Merrilyn (Gilmore) Huier; and his sister, Lynnita Donaven Crager.
