Wanda King, age 83 formerly of Smith, KY, passed away on December 18, 2022 in Fruitland, FL surrounded by family following a brief illness. She was born to the late Ruben and Nannie Lee Britton Saylor on April 7, 1939 in Smith, KY. Wanda was converted to Christ on November 27, 1952 at the age of 13 at a revival in Smith. She was baptized the following summer by Reverend Charlie Killion. She graduated from Hall High School and then attended Cumberland College in Williamsburg where she received her Bachelor’s Degree. She then began teaching and spent the majority of her career teaching at Elzo Gutherie Elementary School. Wanda retired from the Harlan County Board of Education in 1992 after 33 years and one summer. Ms. King is preceded in death by her Parents, Ruben and Nannie Lee Saylor; Husband, Burton King; Brother, Jimmy Saylor; Brother in laws, Finley Lanham, Tom Genzel, Jack Maynard, David Miracle and Larry Hall; Great Niece, Ashley Whitehead. Wanda is survived by her Sisters, JoAnn Genzel, Bernice Miracle Hall and Ruby Maynard; One Nephew, Three Nieces, and Numerous Great and Great Great Nieces and Nephews; Special Cousin, Christine Ford and Husband Alvin; Many Friends will also mourn her passing. Visitation will be Thursday, December 29, 2022 from 2PM to 4PM in the Chapel of Mount Pleasant Funeral Home. Funeral services will follow at 4PM with Bobby Jo Rouse officiating. Burial will be Friday, December 30, 2022 at 10AM at the Barbourville Cemetery in Barbourville, KY with family and friends serving as pallbearers. Mount Pleasant Funeral Home is honored to serve the family of Ms. Wanda King.
