Walter Gene Bishop,72, went home to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus on September 13, 2022. He passed away at home surrounded by his loving family. Walter was born July 25, 1950, in Wichita, Kansas to Warren and Darlene (Eaton) Bishop. He was raised in Kansas but spent a great deal of time at the Bishop Family farm in Missouri. Walter volunteered to serve a tour in Vietnam when he was 17 years old. At the completion of his enlistment, he had attained the rank of Seaman (E-3) in the U.S. Navy. He worked 10 years at Safeway Meat Packing Plant before ultimately receiving the disability he was owed from his time in service in the military. In 1971, he was married to his forever love, Susan Sipult, with whom he spent 51 beautiful years together. They had four children, 20 grandchildren, and 8 great-grandchildren. Walter was preceded in death by his parents; infant brothers, Orville and Wilbur Bishop; sisters, Louise Shaw and Wuanita Dill;,his father and mother-in-law, Ben and Helen (Hastings) Sipult; brother-in law, Clyde Sipult, his and Susan’s angel baby; niece, Denise Dillons; nephews Joshua Stanley and Aaron Dill; and infant son of sister, Louise; daughter, Sarah’s angel baby; and granddaughter, MyKala’s angel babies. Walter is survived by his loving wife, his older sister Linda and her husband Alvin Stanley. His children, Michael, Joey, Jason, Sarah, and her husband Joseph Knotts III. Michael’s children, Abby (Fiance Mark), Gaige, and granddaughter, Lillian. Joey’s children, Kaitlyn, Tarah and Colton. Jason’s children, Cody, Tyler (McKayla), Jaycen, and grandsons, Roman, Silas and Malcom. And Sarah’s children, MyKala (Joshua), Joseph IV, Walter, Bianka, Jesse, A’Zariah, Saadiah, Hadassah, MaryAnna, Evanessah, and grandchildren, Zion, N’jaiah, Esai and Soli. Numerous nieces and nephews, as well as all the neighborhood kids that he mentored, loved, and considered his own. Visitation, 2:00 pm to 6:00 pm, Sunday, September 18, 2022, at Downing & Lahey West Mortuary; Funeral Service, 10:30 am, Monday, September 19, 2022, at Central Community Church Chapel, with internment to follow at Clearwater Cemetery, Clearwater, Kansas.
