Michaud St., Carencro, LA) for Virginia Lastrape Payne, age 77, who went to her eternal resting place on Monday, September 12, 2022 at Methodist Mansfield Medical Center in Arlington, Texas. Interment will be in Evangeline Memorial Gardens in Carencro. The Rev. Msgr. Ronald Broussard, pastor of Our Lady of the Assumption Catholic Church, will officiate the services. Virginia was a native of Beaumont, TX who resided in Carencro, LA for many years but more recently was a resident of Arlington, TX. She was a retired nurse with over forty years of employment. During her time here with us, she touched so many hearts with her warm and loving personality. She had a heart of gold and was always the “life of the party” who would light up a room with her bubbly spirit. Virginia had an unwavering love for her family as well as her friends and without hesitation was always at the bedside to care for those in need and whom she loved. She enjoyed spending time in the kitchen creating delicious meals for family and friends. She loved shopping, singing, dancing, family gatherings, reading her bible, and playing Pokeno with her aunt and cousins. Cherishing her memories are her daughter, Veronica A. Hardy of Arlington, TX; two sons, Aaron Joseph Payne of Arlington, TX and Junius Joseph Payne, Jr. of Lafayette, LA; four grandchildren, Victoria Lorraine Payne, DeJuan Marquis Hardy, Jordan Marcus Hardy, and Ja’Lyn Symone Payne; two great grandchildren, Legend Joshua Dugar and King Joshua Dugar. She also leaves to mourn two sisters, Catherine Benson of Friendswood, TX and Theresa Tory of Pearland TX; one brother, Elgin Charles Lastrape, Jr. of Beaumont, TX; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Virginia was preceded in death by her parents, Elgin R. Lastrape and Beatrice Kennerson Lastrape; her husband, Junius Joseph Payne Sr.; two brothers, Joseph Lastrape and Andrew Lastrape Sr.; and one sister, Mary Payne. A rosary will be prayed at 9:00 a.m. Saturday in the funeral home. The family requests that visiting hours be observed from 9:00 a.m. Friday until service time on Friday. Melancon Funeral Home, Evangeline Memorial Gardens Chapel, 4117 N. University Ave., Carencro, (337) 896-3232, is in charge of arrangements.
