Vance G. Martin April 9, 1945 – June 1, 2022 Share this obituary View/Sign Guestbook CHESAPEAKE—Vance G. Martin, 77, of Chesapeake, VA, passed away June 1, 2022. He was born in Christiansburg, VA to the late Edward Harmon Martin and Dorothy Gaynel Mathieu. Vance served as a Green Beret during the Vietnam War, completing two tours, fighting valiantly for the country he loved. He carried a secret clearance level that kept him from speaking about his missions but was very proud of his contribution in the United States Army. After leaving Army life behind, Vance began a career in Roofing that would span over forty years, becoming a sought-after master mechanic, all the while teaching many others the necessary skills for roofing. He did this while he was actively building a beautiful home for his family. In addition, Vance took an interest in airplane mechanics, so he took the entrance exam, studied hard, passed the exams, and became a certified airplane mechanic. Although he did not pursue a career in an airline, he did attend school so that he could drive the big rigs! He enjoyed his time on the road and often wondered why he didn’t drive sooner. In addition to his parents, Vance is predeceased by his brother Earl Martin and his sister Carolyn Sumler. He is survived by his former wife and best friend, Brenda Waters; daughters Christy Super and Barbara Martin; son Keith Martin (Dena); granddaughter Cassie Super; grandson Keith; his sisters, Mary Catherine Saunders (Joe), Gloria Mullens (Dennis), Sharon Brescia Lovell (Steve), and Connie Shelor (Gary); brother Tim Martin (Marcy); and many beloved family members and friends, including his adored and spoiled grand-dogs, Addy and Oliver, who dearly miss him. A memorial service will be held 11:30 a.m. Friday, June 10, at Sonlight Church, 414 Battlefield Blvd. S., Chesapeake. Condolences may be registered at BWFosterFuneralHome.com.
