Obituary Tilmer Eugene Steele made his final transition on Friday October 7, 2022 at Charter Senior Home in Hazel Crest, Illinois. He was born on January 4, 1939 to Leora (Porter) Steele and Charles Steele in Tamms, Illinois. Tilmer was the fourteenth of 15 siblings. He was preceded in death by his parents, one son and 12 siblings. He was graduate of Tamms High School class of 1957. Following graduation he entered the US Army where he served for three years mostly in Germany. After his discharge in 1959, he settled in Chicago, Illinois. He entered Chicago Junior College where he received a AA degree in 1965. Soon after he signed on to drive for the Chicago Transit Authority. He later moved to Greyhound Bus Company in 1966 where he worked for 23 years. During his time at Greyhound he completed his education at the University of Illinois and earned a BA in Liberal Arts and Sciences in 1974. Tilmer relocated to Matteson, Illinois, a quiet suburb of Chicago, Illinois. Where he made his home for the the next 38 years. In 1989 he returned to work for the Chicago Transit Authority where he retired in 2018. He leaves to cherish his most precious memories, two sons Clayton McBride of Iowa and Errick Brown of Park Forest, Illinois, two sisters, Claudetter Jordan of Tamms, Illinois and Jewell Rouse (Freddie) of University Park, Illinois. In addition he leaves three grandchildren, Sydney Foulks of Chicago, Illinois, Chancellor Foulks of Texas and Louis Brown of Park Forest, Illinois, five great-great grandchildren, a very special friend Pat Brown of Park Forest, Illinois and a host of cousins, nieces and nephews. A graveside inurnment is scheduled for Friday November 18, 2022 at the Mound City National Cemetery at 1:00 pm with Military honors provided by the IL National Guard and Area Veterans. Massie Funeral home in Mounds, Illinois is in charge of the local arrangements.
