Saturday October 15th 2022
Theresa (Terri) O’Shea, 89, of Poughkeepsie, New York, passed away peacefully with her family by her side on October 15, 2022. Born on June 15, 1933, she was the daughter of the late Frank and Josephine (Granata) DeGilio. Terri grew up in Mount Carmel Square, attended Our Lady of Mount Carmel Elementary School and graduated from Poughkeepsie High School in 1950. On June 19, 1954, she married her high school sweetheart, James (Jim) E. O’Shea, and they were together ever since. They have five children, thirteen grandchildren and seven great grandchildren. While raising their children, Terri returned to school and received her Bachelor of Arts from Vassar College in 1976. She then worked in the Art Department at Vassar College before transferring to the Alumnae House where she became Associate Director in charge of reunions and class support. She ultimately became the Executive Director of the Alumnae/i Association of Vassar College. Terri was highly regarded for her ability to connect with alumnae/i and build strong relationships with the many students who worked with her over the years. Terri was also an active member of the Friends of the Poughkeepsie Public Library District and the Marist Center for Lifetime Study. She loved to learn and read and fostered that love in all of her interactions with her children and grandchildren. Over the years, she and Jim traveled the world visiting friends and family. They have been parishioners of St. Martin de Porres Catholic Church since its inception and have always been active in their community. She and Jim were honored by the Dutchess County Division of Aging Services as “2012 Senior Citizen of the Year.” Terri is survived by her daughters, Kathleen Schibanoff and Denise M. (and Patrick) Watson, and her sons, Kevin J. (and Diane), Robert F. (and Dawn) and Christopher J. O’Shea. She was predeceased by her brother John (Skip) F. DeGilio, and her sister-in-law Barbara (Frace) DeGilio. Calling hours will be Tuesday, October 18, 2022 from 4-7 pm at Wm. G. Miller & Son FH, Inc., 371 Hooker Avenue, Poughkeepsie, NY. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Wednesday , October 19,2022, 10:45AM at St. Martin de Porres Church, 118 Cedar Valley Rd., Poughkeepsie, NY 12603. The family wishes to especially thank Joyce Mitchell and Norma Mitchell for their kindness and compassion while caring for Terri over the past three years, as well as the assistance more recently of Michelle Petrucci. In lieu of flowers, gifts to Hudson Valley Hospice in memory of Terri would be greatly appreciated – as the help and support received by the family throughout Terri’s battle with Parkinson’s has been beyond measure.
