Terry Eugene Neuner, 75, of Westphalia, Mo., died peacefully in his sleep on Nov. 23, 2022. The first son of Fred Neuner and Betty McDaniel Neuner Tilson, he was born in Jefferson City on Nov. 9, 1947. Terry started his long and varied career working on his father’s farm outside of Linn, Mo. He had climbed the career ladder from Meadow Gold Dairy worker to a job at 3M in global marketing for 50 countries. Terry was joined in marriage to Mary Hilkemeyer at St. Joseph Church, Westphalia, on Dec. 30, 1967. After retiring from 3M, he returned to farming, raising the prized Kobe beef at his and Mary’s farm near Westphalia. He established Westphalia Winery and Vineyards at the same site. He was co-owner with Mary of Westphalia Inn. You could often find Terry on weekends upstairs in the Norton Room, bartending and pouring samples of his award-winning wines. Terry’s educational career has been as diverse. He is a graduate of Linn High School, Lincoln University, and University of Missouri Columbia, where he received his Masters of Science in Biochemistry. He also studied at Harvard and Columbia University during summers during the 1960s. Terry served in the U.S. Army Reserves as an artillery officer after completing ROTC. He was Company Commander of the unit in Jefferson City The Neuners have lived in such various places as Columbia, Mo. , Oklahoma, Cleveland, Brussels, and Singapore. The couple’s first love has always been the old stone farmhouse on the Maries River, their current residence. Terry was especially proud of the achievements of his children and grandchildren. Terry is survived by his wife Mary; his children, Eric Neuner (Araceli) of San Diego, Ca., Paul Neuner (Irene) of Louisville, KY, Christina Narendra (Andy) of Bali, Indonesia; siblings Steven Neuner of Dallas, Tx., Rick Neuner of Columbia, Mo; grandchildren Gilbert, Katherine, and Ursula Neuner of San Diego, Truman, Gerhard, Albert, Helen, and David of Louisville, and Sutji, Ina, and Dewi of Bali, Indonesia. He is also survived by his mother, Betty Tilson of Columbia. Mass of Christian Burial will be on Saturday, November 26, 2022 at 9:00 a.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Westphalia with Fr. Dylan Schrader officiating. Burial will follow in the St. Joseph Parish Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to Westphalia Historical Society and St. Joseph Church, Westphalia. A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.
