Obituary Ted Childress, 93 years of age, and a resident of Amherst Township, went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Monday, June 20, 2022, following a full and blessed life. He was born May 27, 1929 in Grundy, Virginia. As a young man, Ted moved to Lorain in 1955 where he had made his home for twenty-two years, before moving to Amherst where he resided for the last forty-three years. He proudly served in the United States Army in the Airborne and Tank Corp. during the Korean Conflict. Ted owned and operated with his son Jesse Childress Construction before retiring in 1994. He was previously employed with Dale Yost Construction. Ted loved gardening and enjoyed sharing the bounty of the garden with family and friends. He was an avid reader of the Bible and loved sharing it with family and friends. His greatest joy was the time he spent with his family. Survivors include his children, Sandra Kantelas of North Ridgeville, Russell T. (June) Childress, Garry L. (Diana) Childress both of Amherst; his daughter in law, Janice Childress of Fredericksburg, Va; his grandchildren, Jacob (Jessica) Childress, Adam (Sodoo) Kantelas, Paul (Mellisa) Kantelas, Ashley (Camoran) Shover, Jonathan Childress, Amy Childress and Allen Childress; three great grandchildren Lily, Dahlia, and Gideon; his siblings Lena Dohanyos of Lorain, Cecil (Emma) Childress of Vermilion, Roger Childress of Grundy, Virginia, Virgil Childress of Salem, Virginia, and Linda (Dorlis) Cook of Abbington, Virginia. He was preceded in death by his wife of forty-two years, Edna Marie Childress (nee: Cline) in 1994, his son, Jesse E. Childress in 2021; nine of fourteen brothers and sisters; and by his parents Jesse Letcher and Toy Ellen Childress (nee: Vandyke). Friends may call Friday, June 24, 2022 from 6-8 p.m. at the Hempel Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held on Saturday at 11:00 a.m. at North Lake Missionary Baptist Church, 323 North Lake Street, South Amherst. Rebroadcasting of services will be available at www.hempelfuneralhome.com . The Rev. Rick Keesee, pastor of Midway Baptist Church and Rev. Jayson Samons of North Lake Missionary Baptist Church will co-officiate. Burial will take place at Evergreen Cemetery, South Amherst. The family suggests that memorial contributions be made in lieu of flowers to North Lake Missionary Baptist Church, 323 North Lake Street, South Amherst, OH 44001.
