Susan “Sue” Elizabeth Henderson, treasured mother, grandma, sister, aunt, cousin, and dear friend, passed away on July 23, 2022. Sue was born on June 10, 1942, in Port Huron Michigan to Kenneth and Helen Henderson. At 19 years old, she started her professional X-Ray Technician training in Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan, where she met her first husband, and the foundation of her family began. Sue was a talented and loving soul, and she enjoyed painting, dancing, playing cards, music, crafts, crocheting, gardening, and riding her John Deere tractor. However, Sue’s greatest undertaking was her family, including her four grandchildren who owned her heart. Her family was her life, and she theirs. Sue was born into a hard-working German family that valued tradition, family and German potato salad. Her work ethic, strength and compassion drove her to choose a profession in the medical field as an X-ray technician and office manager; she worked in Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan, Los Angeles, California, Port Huron, Michigan, Mountain Home, Idaho and Traverse City, Michigan. She enjoyed her work, and the many skilled doctors and professionals that she was blessed to work with over the years. Her professional accomplishments aside, Sue had a way about her that drew others to her in every situation. She showed such love and generosity to everyone she met, “collecting” people that she cherished over the span of her life. Everywhere she went, she knew someone and would stop to talk and catch up. Her warmth and desire to feed everyone around her created a sense of home for all. As such, her family had no boundaries, and love ran deep and true. Sue was strong, and charismatic – with a personality that shone through even in the most difficult of times. She was matter-of-fact and felt every emotion with intensity. When she was happy, sad or angry, you knew exactly what she was feeling. She was the champion of such traditions as ‘Cookie Day’, the Easter Treasure Hunt, architecting the Christmas village; she was the head referee of the Rope Game and the infamous “Old Mother Dud Died” game that family and friends know well, whether they want to or not. Sue is survived by her brothers Donald Henderson (Deborah) and Thomas Henderson; her son Greg Stout and his children Julia Stout (Aaron Brinkerhoff), Hannah Stout (Austin Brazie) and Connor Stout, her daughter Becky Kelderhouse and her son Levi Kelderhouse, and daughter Anna Catherine (Katie) Brachel and her daughter-in-law Star Brachel. A celebration of life service will be held on September 18 at Aurora Cellars located at 7768 East Horn Road, Lake Leelanau, Michigan, from 3-6 PM. She will be put to rest in her hometown of Port Huron, Michigan at Lakeside Cemetery. There she will overlook Lake Huron and be near the freighters that sail the St. Clair River. Susan and her family are being cared for by Reynolds-Jonkhoff Funeral Home, www.reynolds-jonkhoff.com
