Susan Diane Rosser 2022

2022
Susan’s Obituary Susan Kelly Rosser of Livingston, Texas, age 83, was called to her heavenly home with the Lord on November 25, 2022. She was born in Bethesda, Maryland on October 22, 1939 to Roy E. and Byrdine Kelly. At age 14 she and her parents moved to Decatur, Georgia where she graduated from Avondale High School. After graduation she attended Georgia State University. During high School she dated James A. Rosser, Jr. whom she subsequently married in September, 1959, while he attended Georgia Tech. Susan and James lived a number of place in the USA and three years in the Netherlands while James was employed by Shell Oil Company/Royal Dutch Shell. She worked for the Humble Independent School District in communications. Later she worked as writer for the Humble/Kingwood Observer newspapers, writing an “Erma Bombeck” style column. She helped originate the School for Little Children at Kingwood United Methodist Church. To assist women with emergency issues in Humble, she worked the emergency hot-line. She served as Cub Scout Den Mother for her sons. After James retired for Shell, they moved from Kingwood, Texas to Livingston, Texas building a home on Lake Livingston in 1999. Susan had been instrumental in them joining Stephen Ministry (a lay caring ministry) at Kingwood United Methodist Church in 1996. They joined First United Methodist Church, Livingston and started a Stephen Ministry program in 2000. As adjuncts to Stephen Ministry they started an Alzheimer’s Support Group, a Grief Support Group, and Home Touch letters of encouragement sent weekly by Susan to those unable to attend church. They spent over 20 years in Stephen Ministry. She devoted much of her life to caring for others. Among her spiritual gifts included mercy and encouragement. She appropriately fits the description of a wife described by the Apostle Peter in 1 Peter 3:4-5 speaking of purity, beauty and reverence, “it should be that of your inner self, the unfading beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit which is of inner self, the unfading beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit which is of great worth in God’s sight. For this is the way the holy women of the past who put their hope in God used to make themselves beautiful” Ove the last 20 years, she and James trained over 45 members (50 class hours each), including three retired Methodist Ministers, to become Stephen Ministers. They also taught Spiritual Gifts classes to interested members. She and James raised four sons and have eleven grandchildren, and six great-grandchildren. She is survived by husband, James, sons, Commander (USN Retire) James A. Rosser, III, wife Suzanne of College Station, Texas, Russell L. Rosser, wife Della of Kingwood, Texas, Gregory S.
