Obituary Please share a memory of Sidney to include in a keepsake book for family and friends. View Tribute Book Sidney L. Wells, Jr passed away on Wednesday, November 9, 2022. Sidney was 84 years old. Sidney (Sid) was born in Chambersburg, Pennsylvania to Sidney, Sr. and Hildegarde Wells on January 28, 1938. He was the third of 13 children. Sidney attended the public schools in Chambersburg and graduated from Chambersburg Area Senior High School in 1956. He completed his undergraduate studies at Shippensburg State College (University) in 1960. Sidney received his Master’s degree in Administration and Supervision from Newark State College (University). Sidney began his career in Education as a fifth-grade teacher at the Bangs Avenue School in Asbury Park, NJ in 1960. He then moved on to Neptune Intermediate School in 1964 as a seventh grade Science teacher and later as Vice Principal at the then newly opened Neptune Junior High School. Sidney returned to Asbury Park in 1970 as Principal at the Asbury Park Middle School until his retirement in 1992. Sidney can be remembered with his famous saying each day to his students, “Give me my halls.” Then he would throw his keys down the hall with the hopes that no one was hit. Sidney believed in educating and teaching children and youth! The students at his Asbury Park Middle School were his babies. He used to say whatever success we enjoyed at our A.P.M.S. was because of his Wonderful Staff and Caring Parents and A Caring Community. After retiring in June 1992 from the Asbury Park School District, Sid worked at the W.S.D.C. and later for New Jersey’s Youth Corps. He felt honored to work for such an outstanding organization that stressed education and employment training for our youth. Sidney is predeceased by his parents Hilda & Sidney L. Wells, Sr., and his grandparents Laura and Raymond Wells-where as he used to say, “they were the angels who watched over him.” Sidney is survived by his daughters Debora, Pamela (Jerry) and Cindy (James) and son, William Sidney (Frances), 15 grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren, and 1 great, great grandchild. Sidney is also survived by a host of siblings, cousins and the mother of his four children, Conchita Anne. Also surviving is his companion-Phylllis A. Hall who cared and loved him for over thirty years.
