Obituary Shirley Cloud Martin was born in Layland, West Virginia to the late Ruben and Callie Cloud. Shirley grew up in Baltimore, MD but left to see the world once she married Jimmie Martin Sr. To this union, she gave birth to her four children: Treva, Carlos, Jimmie Jr., and Marcellus. Shirley left Baltimore to begin her family and civic life. She held various posts throughout her life (NCO Club/Germany, Edgemont Solar Garden/Founding Member, Edgemont Neighborhood Coalition, Dayton Inner West Priority Board, Dayton Democratic Voters League, Order of Eastern Star, etc). She was deeply rooted in community services as well as local politics. Shirley wrote editorial letters to the newspaper and to three different U.S. Presidents and also received written responses. Shirley had an extremely diverse taste for music ranging from Blues, R&B and Hip Hop. Denise LaSalle, Whitney Houston, and Tupac Shakur were a few of her favorites. Shirley’s pride was being “Granny Goose” to her beloved grand and great-grandchildren and the neighborhood children as well. Shirley is preceded in death by brothers, Frank, Ed, Dennis and Sammie Cloud; sisters, Dora Lee, Barbara Ann, Dot, Alma Cloud “Boobi”; daughter, Treva; son, Jimmie Jr.; grandson, Eric Brooks Jr.; brother-in-law, Charles H. Jones; nephew, Charles Jones Jr. Mourning Shirley are her sons, Carlos Martin (Tashia) and Marcellus Martin (Toma); granddaughter, Jacobi Martin (Robert Wallace); grandson, James Brooks (Valeria); granddaughter-in-law, Carrington Parran; great granddaughters, Jamille and JaNia Wallace, Gabrielle and Gwendolyn Brooks; great grandson, Aubry Brooks; bonus daughter, Tina Shaw; sister, Betty Cloud; brother, Robert Cloud (Elena); sister-in-law, Ruth Cloud; nephews, Roland, Charlie, Calvin and Willis; nieces, Renee, Connie, CaraLyn, Chandra, Vesta, Tutti and Alicia; cousin, Tyrone Powers (Beatty); close friend, Mrs. Bernice Martin; many more nieces, nephews, cousins and friends who all LOVED Shirley. Calling hour 11 am Saturday, February 12, at the House of Wheat Funeral Home, Inc., 2107 N. Gettysburg Ave. Memorial service will be held at 11 am. (Mask Required).
