Shirley’s Obituary Shirley Ann Hunter Thomas, 86, of Marshall, Texas, passed away on Tuesday afternoon, November 15, 2022, in Carthage, Texas. She was born on June 24, 1936, in Monroe, Louisiana to the late Lemuel Leonard and Amy Womack Hunter. Shirley graduated from Jonesboro Hodge High School in Jonesboro, Louisiana with the class of 1955. She married Shelby Glenn Thomas on March 22, 1956, in Alexandria, Louisiana and they celebrated 63 years together before he preceded her in death on July 2, 2019. Shirley graduated from cosmetology school and owned her own beauty salon. She was also a very talented artist, having worked at Marshall Pottery as an artist for over 13 years until her retirement. She was a member of Crossroads Baptist Church in Marshall. Shirley was also preceded in death by sisters, Margie Terral and Juanita Honeycutt and brothers, Arnold and Paul Hunter. She is survived by her children, Kim Getsay and husband Lynn of Carthage and Jeff Thomas and wife Lisa of Elysian Fields; grandchildren, Ben Getsay and wife Ashlee of Cypress, Shelby Plaschke and husband Brandon of Hallsville, Lee Ann Adams and husband Todd of Marshall, and Lydia Phillips and husband Levi of Pineville, Louisiana; great-grandchildren, Daisy Plaschke, Callie Getsay, Blake Getsay, Jaxon Adams, Ava Adams, Parker Adams, Olivia Adams, and Raina Phillips; sister, Bonnie Duck and husband Wayne; sisters-in-law, Sue Bain and husband Ed and Kay Meeks; and numerous nieces and nephews. The family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff of Winkler Place in Carthage and the nurses and staff of Heart’s Way Hospice for their love and care. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, December 3, 2022, at Crossroads Baptist Church in Marshall with Bro. Derek Hicks, Dr. Kirby Hill, and Lynn Getsay officiating. The family will receive friends from 10:30 – 11:00 a.m. on Saturday at the church prior to the memorial service.
