Abingdon, VA – Sherrye Deyerle May, age 93, passed on Saturday, November 5, 2022, in Commonwealth Senior Living. Mrs. May was born in Roanoke, VA where she lived her early adult life before moving to Abingdon in 1956. She a member of Sinking Spring Presbyterian Church. Mrs. May was preceded in death by her parents, Walter E. and Eva Rutherford Deyerle; husband, Robert May; son, David D. May; son-in-law, Byrd Trigg Preston, Jr.; and siblings, Joyce Matchett, Faye Sechrist, and June Thomas Fisher; Walter Deyerle, and Ira Deyerle. She is survived by her daughter, Suzanne Preston of Abingdon, VA; daughter-in-law, Karen May; two sisters, Laverne Deyerle of Salem, VA, and Pat Turner of Lynchburg, VA; four grandchildren, Adam May, Elizabeth May, Brad May and wife Candice, and Rachel Nelson and husband Josh; four great grandchildren, Aiden, Liam, Gavin, and Beckett; step grandchildren, Randi Preston, Ronnie Preston and their families; and many nieces and nephews. Cryptside services will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, November 8, 2022, in the Colonial Chapel Mausoleum of Forest Hills Memory Gardens with Rev. Kevin Campbell officiating. The family would like to extend special thanks to the staff of Commonwealth Senior Living who cared for Sherrye so well and became like extended family, as well as her friends and church family for their thoughts and prayers.
