View Tribute Book Sharon Jo Borwig, 73, of Cedar Rapids, passed away Sunday, August 21, 2022, at Oldorf Hospice House. Sherry was born December 11, 1948, in Waterloo, Iowa, the daughter of Rozella (Nolan) and Kenneth Simpson. She grew up there, graduating from Columbus Catholic High School in 1967. Sherry married Michael C. Borwig that summer and raised their children. She remained a devoted mother and grandmother during their 48 years of marriage and after. Sherry was a caregiver her entire life taking great pride in being a serving individual; she always did it with grace. They moved to Cedar Rapids and Marion where she was a country estate caregiver for Van Vechten Shaffer while raising her children. Later, she enjoyed working retail at Armstrong’s Department Store in the infant department. In the late 1970’s and early 1980’s Sherry spent time building an earth home in the country outside of Swisher. She was an active member and past president of the Swisher W.I.LO.S. (Women’s Improvement League of Swisher). Sherry is a member of St. Matthew’s Church where she volunteered. She made friends there and during her time at Blair House. Sherry treasured playing cards, and lunch outings with her girlfriends of Swisher and Blair House. Her favorite thing was time with family, especially her grandchildren. Sherry is survived by her son, John (Kim) Borwig of Kentucky; daughter, Michelle (Tony) Milcoff of Swisher; grandchildren, Blake Borwig, Mikayla Wilson, Skila Milcoff, and Genna Milcoff; brother, Ronnie Simpson (Sharon) of Dike, Iowa.; sister, Mary Kay Hockemeyer (Allen) of Hudson, Iowa; and 17 beloved nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Gary & Steven Simpson; and granddaughter, Brianna Borwig. Many thanks to the staff of University of Iowa Hospital Oncology Department as well as the staff at the Hall Perrine Cancer Center.
