Ruth Ann Bailey October 14, 1937 – September 25, 2022 Share this obituary View/Sign Guestbook PORTSMOUTH—Ruth Ann Bailey, 84, died at home on Sept 25, 2022. Born in Bluefield, WV, Ruth moved to Portsmouth at age 24. Along with raising her three children, Ruth became a real estate agent, and owned a bakery in Portsmouth, a testament to her lifelong love of sweets, especially her Italian cream cake. A member of Good News Baptist for 46 years, Ruth often spoke fondly of her time teaching the 2-year-old toddler Sunday School class and nursery. She enjoyed many summer vacations in Hatteras with her family. One of her greatest joys was staying in touch with family and friends through daily phone calls. Ruth was preceded in death by her parents, James H. Wynn and Nancy S. Wynn; her husband of 61 years, Lewis M. Bailey; and her brother, James Wynn. She is survived by her brother Wayne Wynn; sister Marry Gaddy (husband Gary); sons Steve Bailey (wife Jocelyn), Vic Bailey (wife Olga), and Mark Bailey (wife Pam); grandchildren Michael Bailey (wife Emily), and Melissa Alcocer (husband William); and great-granddaughter Anna. The family will receive friends from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Friday, September 30, at Good News Baptist Church, 3252 Taylor Rd., Chesapeake. The funeral will be held at 11:30 a.m. Saturday, October 1; it will be streamed at GoodNewsBaptist.org/live. Burial will follow at Meadowbrook Memorial Gardens, 4569 Shoulders Hill Rd., Suffolk.
