Obituary Rose Ann (nee Fiacchino) Vargo, 87, passed away surrounded by her family, on December 10, 2022. Beloved wife of the late John Francis Vargo for 65 years. Loving mother of Theresa (Mark) Mitchell, Catherine Orlandi and John Michael (Gabrielle) Vargo. Cherished grandmother of Nicholas (Alyssa) Orlandi, Nicole Mitchell, James Mitchell, Gina Rose Orlandi, John David Vargo and Annagrace Vargo. Preceded in death by her brothers Anthony (late Lucille) Fiacchino, John (late Lily) Fiacchino and Joseph (late Mary) Fiacchino. Dear sister-in-law of the late James (Anna) Vargo and Rita (late Joseph) Munch. Adored Auntie Rose to many nieces and nephews. Rose was known for being a strong, caring woman, who wasn’t afraid to tell it like it was. She exemplified class, from her perfectly styled outfits to her effortless poise. Her larger than life personality didn’t match her small stature. As a former Chicago West-sider, she married her beloved late husband, John Francis Vargo in 1956. For 65 years, their love has been the heart of the family. Rose was a loyal parishioner and a former choir member of the St. Thecla Catholic Church on Chicago’s far Northwest side. Rose was also an amazing cook, and took pride in her Italian cooking. If you were lucky enough to have dinner at her table you would know her gravy (sauce), meatballs, and lasagna were legendary. And for dessert, she would make her traditional and delectable pizzelle cookies. When you ate at her table, you were family. Family meant everything to her and she was fiercely loyal and protective of them. A sweet and sometimes spicy, but loving lady, she would never miss an opportunity to hug and smooch her three children and six grandchildren. She will be dearly missed by all. Visitation will be Tuesday, December 13 from 4:00 PM until 8:00 PM at Skaja Terrace Funeral Home, 7812 North Milwaukee Avenue in Niles. Funeral Services begin Wednesday, December 14 at 9:00 AM at the funeral home, followed by a brief prayer service and procession to St. John Brebeuf Church, 8305 N. Harlem Avenue in Niles, for 11:00 AM Mass. Interment will be private.
