Ronald D. “Mumps” Mumford of Dallastown passed away Thursday, December 1, 2022 at his home surrounded by his loving family. He was the husband of Lucinda (Druck) Mumford. He was born July 26, 1942 and was the son of the late Clarence and Thelma (Heeter) Mumford. Ron graduated in the first class at York Suburban High School in 1960. He enlisted in the United States Navy serving during the Cuban Crisis. While in the Navy, Ron formed his own singing group and continued singing in York for a time afterwards. He loved singing and was known for his beautiful voice, until sadly losing it to cancer. Ron retired as a letter carrier for the U.S. Postal Service and later as a deputy for the York County Sheriff’s Department. He served as a mentor for the York County Veterans Treatment Court and belonged to various social clubs in York. Ron loved golfing with his Tuesday golf buddies and was well known for his “wild” golf outfits. His deteriorating health made the last year difficult, but he found the stamina to be part of the Sherriff’s Tournament. In addition to his wife, Ron is also survived by three sons, Shaun Mumford and his wife Christie of Mt. Wolf, PA, Michael Copenheaver and his wife Anita of Missouri and Kevin Copenheaver and his wife Rosie of Mifflintown, PA; grandchildren and great grandchildren and two sisters, Bev Hess of Lancaster and Linda Harmon and her husband Woodie of Arizona. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, December 8, 2022 at the Etzweiler Funeral Homes and Cremation Service, 1111 E. Market St. York, PA with the Rev. David Stough officiating. A viewing will be held one hour prior to the service. Burial will be in Susquehanna Memorial Gardens following the service. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the “Cancer Patient Help Fund” c/o York Health Foundation, 2500 S. George Street, York, PA 17403.
