Roland Bruce Carlson, 70, lifetime native of Traverse City, passed away December 19, 2022. Roland was born to the late Clarence and Lucille (Campbell) Carlson August 2, 1952. He was one of three children. He worked at ASGARD, worked as a dishwasher at the Grand Hotel on Mackinaw Island for three seasons and also worked at United Technologies (later Lear Corp.) for 20 years. He was a fan of the Cherry Pit Speedway, The Lions, The Tigers and his time spent in the woods hunting. But most of all, he was a huge cheerleader to his nephews, religiously and regularly attending their sporting events. He was a proud bat boy for the Cedar softball leagues that his nephews played on and enjoyed the camaraderie of all the players as he cheered on teams at the Civic Center. His favorite furry friend is Spooky his cat of 14 years who enjoyed his regular walks on a leash in the yard with Roland. More than anything, Roland loved his family. He leaves behind his sister Carol (Al) Shively, brother Glenn (Virginia), nephews Glenn II, Jesse (Tasha) and Nick (Amanda) Carlson, Chris (Shelly) Shively, niece Karen (Jon) Beasley, great nieces and nephews; Ames, Adeline, Maeve, Briggs, Braxton, Carson, Azalea, Arya, Ryan, Remington, Christian (Michelle) and Ethan, as well as great great niece and nephew Sophie and Grayson; many cousins and special friends Jay and Maria. He is preceded in death by his parents. A funeral will take place at the Reynolds Jonkhoff Funeral Home on December 30, 2022 at 3:00pm, with a visiting hour from 2pm-3pm. A private family graveside service will be held at a later time at the Grand Traverse Memorial Gardens where Roland will be laid to rest with his mom and dad. The family would like to sincerely thank April (Nurse) and Roland’s care team of Jessica, Destiny, Christy, Pat and Joyce for all the compassion they provided Roland and his whole family. They would also like to thank nephew Glenn II for all the special help he provided his uncle. The family asks in lieu of flowers you consider contributions to Hospice of Michigan, a program that goes above and beyond to help families in this community. Roland and his family are being cared for by the Reynolds Jonkhoff Funeral Home.
