Roger L. Smigiel Saginaw Twp., Michigan Beloved husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather passed away on Tuesday, December 13, 2022. Age 82 years. The son of the late Leo and Esther (Kalweit) Smigiel, Roger was born on March 9, 1940 in Saginaw, Michigan. Roger married Patricia O’Polka on May 7, 1960. She predeceased him on June 1, 2008. Roger then married Irene (Mielke) Canda on August 26, 2011. She survives him. Roger was the Operations Manager for Fabiano Brothers Distributing for many years until his retirement in 2005. He enjoyed spending time at the family cabin on Wixom Lake, golfing, boating and going to the ca$ino. Roger and Irene were members of St. Dominic Parish-St. Stephen Church. Surviving besides his wife Irene are three sons and their spouses, Derrick and Tish Smigiel, Minneapolis, Minnesota; Randy and Shelli Smigiel, Saginaw Twp.; Rodger and Donna Smigiel, Esville; four step-children, Gary (Gail) Lugiewicz, Kalkaska; Chad (Jennifer) Canda, Waters; Christi (Robert) Markwardt, Flint and Michael Canda, Saginaw; six grandchildren, Kristin (Eric) Smit; Lauren Smigiel, Nicole (Tyler) Lindsey, Adam Smigiel, Tiffany (Ed) Switek, Spencer Smigiel; three great-grandchildren, Landon and Lucas Smit and Elie Lindsey; his step-grandchildren, Lindsey (Leo) Dey, Joshua Lugiewicz, Tara Canda, Ellie Canda , Katie Canda, Mallory Markwardt and Kelly Markwardt; two step-great-grandchildren, Gianna Dey and Collin Herzberg; a brother, Dennis (Christine) Smigiel, Saginaw; many nieces and nephews. Roger was preceded in death by a grandson, Ryan Smigiel; two sisters, Sharon Robnolte and Joy Smigiel. Honoring Mr. Smigiel’s wishes cremation has taken place. Funeral Liturgy will take place at 12:00 Noon on Saturday, January 7, 2023 at St. Dominic Parish – St. Stephen Catholic Church, 2711 Mackinaw. Rev. Fr. Steven Gavit will officiate. Friends and family may visit at the church where the family will be present on Saturday, January 7, 2023 from 10:00 a.m. until the time of Mass. Private entombment will take place in St. Andrew Mausoleum. In lieu of flowers, those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider memorials to St. Dominic Parish, St. Jude Children’s Hospital or American Diabetes Association. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to The Snow Funeral Home, 3775 N. Center Rd.
