Robert J. “Bob”‘s Obituary Robert J. “Bob” Mellinger, age 70 of Bremen, IN, passed away on Monday evening, September 26, 2022 at Memorial Hospital of South Bend. He was born on December 5, 1951 in Elkhart, IN to John and Lucille (Wiersma) Mellinger. Bob was a lifelong Nappanee/Bremen area resident and was a 1970 graduate of NorthWood High School. Mr. Mellinger proudly served his country in the United States Air Force Reserves and was a past member of the Nappanee American Legion Post #154 and North Liberty VFW Post #1954. On March 3, 1973 Bob married Nancy Mast in South Bend, IN. They were the owner/ operators of LuAnn Nursing Home in Nappanee from 1978-2013. Bob was an avid fan of the Chicago Bears and Chicago Cubs and he enjoyed fishing. He and Nancy enjoyed their time in Siesta Key, FL with family and friends and they were members of the Fraternal Order of Eagles in Syracuse, IN. Surviving are his wife of nearly 50 years, Nancy Mellinger of Bremen, IN; 2 children: Rob (Stephanie) Mellinger of Hawthorn Woods, IL and Kellie (Jon) Cacioppo of Gurnee, IL; and 3 grandchildren: Gianna Cacioppo and Jack and Benjamin Mellinger. Bob was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Beth Perry. Visitation will be held from 3-7pm on Friday, September 30, 2022 at Thompson-Lengacher and Yoder Funeral Home, Nappanee and for one hour prior to an 11am funeral on Saturday, October 1, 2022, also at Thompson-Lengacher and Yoder Funeral Home. Burial will follow in South Union Cemetery. Memorial Contributions in Bob’s name can be given to the American Cancer Society. Read More
