Obituary Mr. Robert Franklin “Bob” Bennett, Sr., 83, of Fayetteville, PA, passed away unexpectedly, Saturday, October 8, 2022. Born October 10, 1938, in Harrisonburg, VA, he was the son of the late Rev. Golden H. Bennett and Cleda F. Bennett. He graduated from Fairfield High School, Fairfield, PA, with the class of 1958, and enlisted in the U.S. Army. He joined the U.S. Navy shortly after and was honorably discharged April 25, 1962. Robert was a loving husband, father and friend. He was a man who put his faith first and loved his country passionately. A man who wept at the sound of the Star-Spangled Banner. He was very proud of serving his country with the Navy SeaBees, the Navy’s engineers. He was stationed in Guantanamo Bay. His career allowed him the opportunity to travel all over the world, including the ice caps of Greenland and Saudi Arabia. He also worked at Letterkenny Army Depot and at Site R. His primary role was that of supervisor and troubleshooter for power generation for radar equipment, worldwide. He was a member of Acacia Lodge #586 F.&A.M. of Waynesboro, PA; the South Penn Scottish Rite Club and Wounded Warriors; the American Legion; the Republican Congressional Committee and the NRA. He was a strong supporter of law enforcement officers and a staunch supporter of Donald Trump and the Second Amendment Foundation. His support and commitment to our country couldn’t be over stated. Bob was a jack of all trades. There was nothing this man couldn’t do! He was a talented electrician, carpenter, mechanic, and so much more. He was a man who could make something out of nothing! He was incredibly intelligent. Yet despite all of his talents, he was an incredibly humble man who was generous to a fault. He had such a loving soul and with his outgoing, witty personality, he easily became the center of attention anytime family and friends came together to enjoy each other’s company and some good food! In addition to his wife, Lorelie P. (Tarrosa) Bennett, whom he married December 21, 2000, he is survived by his son, Robert T. Bennett, Jr. of Fayetteville, and his former wife, Dottie Sprow of South Mountain, PA. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M., Saturday, October 15, 2022 in Grove-Bowersox Funeral Home, 50 South Broad St. Waynesboro, PA, with Pastor Lee Daywalt officiating. Burial will follow in Strangs Cemetery, South Mountain, where military honors will be conducted by Charles Nitterhouse V.F.W. Post#1599. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service in the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to Waynesboro New Hope Shelter, Inc., 25 S. Potomac St. Waynesboro, PA 17268.
