Saturday October 15th 2022
Early Saturday, October 15th, Robert (Bob) Maurice Barrett, a beloved brother, father, grandfather and friend, died peacefully. He was 87 years old, the first born to Mary and Maurice, and a Brooklynite through and through. Bob is survived by his brother Edward and sister-in-law Mary, his three sons James, Daniel and Robert, his daughter-in-law Tricia (Daniel), his grandchildren Daniel, Grace and Nolan, his nephew Paul, and his niece Erica. Bob was a navy veteran serving aboard the USS Coral Sea during the Korean War and was the recipient of the National Defense Service Ribbon and the European Occupational Service Medal. He worked for the NYC Sanitation Department. After retirement Bob continued his tradition of service at Branches Pub and King’s Tavern, to name a few, as a bartender and confidante. He was a very proud friend and golf buddy to many over the years and he cherished the golf trips and comradery. He enjoyed having a few drinks with friends at Chadwick’s, Pipin’s Pub and The Wicked Monk. Bob was a cruciverbalist (a crossword enthusiast!) completing his Daily News crossword religiously for many years. He was quick witted, loved sports – especially baseball, hockey and golf – and was a walking dictionary on the MLB and the PGA. Services will be held at McLaughlin and Son’s, 9620 3rd Avenue, Brooklyn, NY (718-238-3600) on Tuesday from 2-5 PM & 7-9 PM. His Funeral Mass will take place on Wednesday at 10:30 AM at St. Patrick’s Church, 9511 4th Avenue, Brooklyn, NY. Read Less
