Cagnassola peacefully passed away on August 16, 2022 after an 17 month battle with bile-duct cancer. He was born on May 4, 1940, in Rahway, NJ to Atelio and Frances Cagnassola. Upon graduating Fairfield University in 1965, Bob became a trailblazer in his career culminating in a 35-year run as managing partner of Suplee, Clooney & Company. As a licensed CPA and RMA, he served on the New Jersey State Board of Accountancy for twenty-five years having first been appointed by then Governor Tom Kean in 1987, including two terms as its president. Bob was a proud recipient of the Distinguished Service Award from NASBA in 2016 for his years of dedication to the organization. Believing it was important to give back to the community, he served on the board of Spaulding for Children, an adoption agency for hard to place children, and was one of the founders of The Town Bank of Westfield. Bob loved meeting people, had a unique ability to create lifelong friendships, and took pride in taking time to always extend one more favor than he received. This was perhaps never more evident than Somerset County’s Adult Day Care’s decision to name its Quite Relaxation Room after Robert and Elizabeth Cagnassola. Robert was an incredibly devoted husband and best friend to his wife, Elizabeth D. Cagnassola. He loved and will continue to be loved by his two sons; Christopher and Phillip; his two daughters-in-law; Carrie and Kerri; and his four grandchildren; Jewel, Madelyn, Peter, and Ava. He was preceded in death by his parents, Atelio and Frances and his sister, Fran. Friends and family will gather at Dooley Colonial Funeral Home, 556 Westfield Avenue, Westfield, NJ on Sunday, August 21, 2022 from 2 to6 pm to pay their respects. Mass of Christian Burial will be on Monday, August 22, 2022 at The Parish Community of St. Helen, 1600 Rahway Avenue, Westfield, NJ at 11:30 am.
