View Tribute Book Richard Vomund Lowry, 82, Columbia, MO, formerly of Union, MO, passed away Saturday, November 12, 2022 at his home. Richard was born August 17, 1940, in Mexico, MO.; the son of Raymond David Lowry and Lucille Marie (nee Vomund). After graduating from Wellsville High School in 1958, he served his country honorably as a member of the U.S. Army from December 1960 to December 1962 at Fort Riley, KS. He was united in marriage to Victoria Garibay on December 26, 1961, in Manhattan, KS. The couple made their home in Union. While living in Union, he was a member of Immaculate Conception Church and the Knights of Columbus. Their marriage was blessed with four children. After the loss of his wife, Richard remarried on February 8, 2020 to Karla Clemons where they made their home in Columbia. Richard enjoyed farming as a young man on the family farm. He and his first wife owned Vickey’s Cafe in Washington in the 70’s & 80’s. He spent his career working for Cassens Transport Co. in Fenton, MO. He enjoyed gardening, fishing, traveling, and spending time with family and friends. He knew no stranger and his love and compassion reached far and wide. Richard is survived by his wife, Karla Lowry of Columbia; his children: Anita Otte of Union, Monica Assareh and husband Yadollah of St. Louis, Raymond Lowry and wife Janet of Washington, and Lisa Meyer and husband Alan of Grants Pass, OR.; five grandchildren: Adela Otte of Union, Alexandria Shah and husband Ankoor of St. Louis, Noah Assareh and wife Megan of Fenton, Dominic Meyer and partner Ellen Bentson of Boulder, CO, and Gabriella Herrera and husband Gabriel of Portland, OR.; two great-grandchildren: Mia Halterman of Union and Mira Shah of St. Louis; three stepchildren; Angie Vernon of Rockport, Melissa Fritchen of Springfield, and Chris Wheeler of Fort Scott, KS.; two brothers: Kenneth Lowry and wife June of Olathe, KS, and John Lowry and wife Joyce of Mexico; one sister, Elizabeth Smith and husband Jeff of Camdenton. Richard was preceded in death by his former wife, Victoria Lowry; his parents, Raymond & Lucille Lowry; one brother, Roger Lowry; one grandson, Mario Otte; and one great-grandson, Ethan Michael Otte. Memorial donations may be made to Wellsville-Middletown Young Farmers, 900 Burlington Rd., Wellsville, MO 63384. Richard held this association close to his heart. Graveside Service will be held at 11:00 AM on December 5, 2022 at Union City Cemetery in Union, MO with full military honors. The Lowry family is served by Oltmann Funeral Home in Union, MO.
