Richard’s Obituary Copeland – Richard Dean Unruh was born to Cecil and Ruby Unruh on February 12, 1962, at Garden City. He passed away on the farm on November 19, 2022, hunting pheasants with his son Cody and his Mississippi friends. This was something he loved to do. As a child, he really enjoyed riding his horse, fishing, and being with his school friends. He went to Sublette Grade School all his eight years of school. When he was a little older, he enjoyed working with cattle. He also loved working with his brother Stan. As a youth, he worked in the Garden City sale barn, which he also loved. Richard met the Lord in April of 1977, and was baptized on April 24, 1977, by Min. Delton Wedel. He was married to Lana Nightengale on January 20, 1985. The birth of his first child LaTonya brought him a special joy. As the boys came along, he wondered if he would be able to provide an opportunity for them. Richard was a farmer at heart and loved it. His equipment always needed to be clean. He also loved to barbecue and smoke meat. Richard enjoyed many trips with his neighbors. He had a special bond with his neighbor Lonnie Nichols. There was a sadness in his heart at Lonnie’s passing less than a year ago. He and Lana also enjoyed a cruise trip to the Panama Canal in 2019. He really enjoyed his grandchildren. He loved taking them on rides on his CanAm and even teaching them to drive. He also enjoyed the dogs which went with him everywhere. His presence was felt and will be missed, but, as he mentioned even in the last day, his desire was to go to heaven. Those left behind are his wife, Lana; four children, LaTonya Kraus of Copeland, Cody and wife Arielle of Copeland, Cory and girlfriend Taylor of Garden City, Rylan of Garden City; brother, Galen and his wife Sharon of Galva; sister, Jolene and her husband Dennis Koehn of Texline, Texas; brother, Stan and his wife Jerra of Sedan, New Mexico; brother, Steve and his wife Karen of Copeland; seven grandchildren, Kenadee, Kiyah, Kaleah, Kylana, Kipton, Leighton, and Landry; and his parents-in-law Kenneth and Ladean Nightengale. His parents, Cecil and Ruby Unruh preceded him death. Funeral service will be held at Salem Mennonite Church, Copeland on Wednesday, November 23, 2022 at 10:30 AM. Burial will follow at Salem Mennonite Cemetery. Visitation will be at Swaim Funeral Chapel, Montezuma on Tuesday, November 22, 2022 from noon to 5:00 PM.
