HUDSON/ NORTHBOROUGH Richard B. McKinstry, affectionately known by all as MAC, passed away peacefully at the Marlborough Hospital on Wednesday, November 30, 2022 after a short period of declining health; he was 85 years old. Born in Worcester, Massachusetts on October 19, 1937 MAC was a son to Earle C. and Marion (Darling) McKinstry and McKinstry. MAC and his wife Carlene lived for 40 years at 340 Howard St. in Northborough, MA. Carlene pre-deceased MAC on August 30th of this year. MAC earned his EAGLE SCOUT rank and was awarded the GOD and COUNTRY badge while a scout with Troop 175 and at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Holden, Massachusetts. The outdoors was where MAC wanted to be. Scouting, camping, hiking, dirt-biking , downhill skiing, snow-mobiles, bicycle racing, speed and risk taking were all his loves. AND, those loves produced many a broken bone over the years. He was proud of each and every one of them! MAC was very pleased with his working career, spent with several firms including Data General, “functioning as an engineer with just a High School education”. His mechanical ingenuity was also evidenced by his automotive interests. Corvettes, GTOs and dragsters including involvement in a team that won National Recognition with their Chevy, nick named the “WAPID WABBIT”. MAC spent the last year of his life at the assisted living location at the ARTISAN in Hudson. There he loved the attention that he garnered, the kindness of the staff, and the friendship of his table “mates” and walking pals. He leaves behind his nephew, Michael Johnson of Georgia, his niece, Debra Honey of South Portland, Maine and his cousins, Bobbi Fongeallaz of Florida and Joani Yankee of Vermont. A calling hour will be held from 4 – 5pm on Monday, December 5 at Hays Funeral Home, 56 Main Street, Northborough. MAC’s funeral will immediately follow at 5pm in the funeral home.
