Obituary Reuben P. Nelson departed this earthly life on August 17, 2022 in Annandale, MN. Memorial Services will be held 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, August 23, 2022 at Dingmann Funeral Care Chapel in Annandale with visitation one hour prior to the service. Burial with military honors will be held at the Minnesota State Veterans Cemetery near Little Falls later in the week. Reuben Paul Nelson was born October 24, 1935 in Eagle Bend, MN to parents Paul V. Nelson and Sarah E. (Redetzke) Nelson. He graduated from Browerville High School, Browerville, MN in 1954. Reuben served in the Army from 1958-1960. Upon return from service, he worked at Hustad Steel in Minneapolis, MN. He became a certified auto mechanic and owned a full-service gas station on 41st and Fremont in North Minneapolis. He finished his auto mechanic career working for 3M in Maplewood; he retired and moved to Browerville to again run his own garage at his home. Reuben married Lois Luoma on July 21, 1962 at Mount Olivet Lutheran Church in Minneapolis. They had three children. His passion for classic cars, restoring and repairing them, kept him busy. When he wasn’t working on his projects, he was fishing. He was a former member of the Still Cruisin’ Car Club of Staples, MN, winning numerous awards for his cars over the years at various car shows. Reuben is survived by his wife of 60 years, Lois; children, Debbie (Alonzo) Cooper of Carlton, OR, Doug (Anita) Nelson of South Haven, MN and Lynn (Randall) Bjorkstrand of Kenyon, MN; nine grandchildren, Andrew (Stephanie) Strugar, Ryan (Katrina) Strugar, Kasey (Ryan) Foster, Jack Nelson, Ryan (Lindsay) Bjorkstrand, Drew Bjorkstrand, Tara Bjorkstrand, Alex Bjorkstrand and Michael Cooper; twelve wonderful and loving great-grandchildren, AJ Strugar, Calissa Pishney, Tessa Rae Nelson, Declan Strugar, Bear Strugar, Stormy Strugar, Taylor Foster, Ethan Foster, Noah Foster, Charley Bjorkstrand, Conner Anderson and Claire Bjorkstrand; one great-great granddaughter, Violet Deilke; sister, Lavonne (Ron) Cavalier of Browerville, MN; and many nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents and grandparents. Reuben will be remembered for his great love of family and classic cars.
