Michael Lawrence Guerriero, of Ridgewood, NJ, passed away unexpectedly at the age of 80 on September 2, 2022. The depth of love, grace, appreciation, and respect he bestowed upon everyone he came into contact with has left us all both blessed by his life and deeply saddened to have lost him.
He is survived by his wife Lynn Guerriero; his children Stacey Guerriero Gray, Michael (Melanie), and David (Lori); siblings Angie Pizzi, Pauline Chichelo, Joe (Diana), and Eleanor Zimmerman (Paul); his grandchildren Peter, Olivia, Sofia, Michael, Lidia, and Anna. He was preceded in death by his parents Leonard and Concetta as well as by his brothers-in-law Joseph Chichelo and Donald Pizzi.
He was born in Orange, NJ on January 21, 1942, to Leonard and Concetta Guerriero who immigrated to the United States from Italy. The first member of his family to attend college, he earned an Associate Degree in Ornamental Horticulture in 1962 from the State University of New York at Farmingdale, and a Bachelor’s Degree of Landscape Architecture in 1965 from the University of Georgia.
His career as a licensed Landscape Architect, that ran from 1965-1982, began with Zion and Breen Associates in New York City. That experience and his friendship with Mr. Jack Vreeland led to a formation of their own firm, Vreeland & Guerriero Landscape Architects. During his career he enjoyed creating wonderful outdoor spaces and environs for various projects ranging in location from New York City to Dubai, UAE.
While he enjoyed his first career, he took an opportunity as an entrepreneur in logistics in 1982. Through the various iterations of this business that included Clark Kent Express, The LTA Group, and Argix Logistics, his strength of character, work ethic, humble and gracious attitude, good humor, and dedication served him very well.
He always had a deep appreciation for God’s blessings in creation. The flora and fauna. Good food and good wine. A good laugh. The amazing and varied scenic landscapes and views. But to him, all of these were wonders and tools by which friends and family could be brought together in love and fellowship. Success in business was a means to an end for him. He felt very grateful and blessed for the result and for all who helped him in these endeavors, but he counted as his true success the ability to continue the legacy of love for and of his family.
Visiting hours are 6-8pm, on Thursday Sept. 8th, 2-4pm and 7-9pm on Friday Sept. 9th at the Vander Plaat Funeral Home, 257 Godwin Ave., Wyckoff, NJ 07481.
