Phyllis Marie McBroom Pollock departed this life to be with God on December 22, 2022 in the Corydon Care Center at the age of 92. Phyllis, daughter of late Wayne McBroom and wife Ermal, was born on September 7, 1930. Phyllis was born on a farm west of Leroy, Iowa, in the same house her father was. Phyllis grew up with 6 siblings; Cloyd, Marjorie, Paul, Howard, Joyce and Carrol. On May 30, 1948 Phyllis was united in marriage to Max Pollock at the Methodist Church in Corydon. The couple made their home on a farm north of Allerton for 35 years until retiring and moving to Corydon. During this time the couple was blessed with three wonderful children: Marvin, Ruth and Susan. Phyllis was a hard working farm wife, who worked right alongside her husband. She was very involved in 4H and was a leader to many. Phyllis was a dedicated member of the Allerton Methodist Church. She was a 50 year member of The Order of Eastern Star, where she held many offices and spent many hours volunteering for different organizations. Phyllis had quite the green thumb; on the farm she enjoyed canning and while living in town she had a yard full of the most beautiful plants and flowers. Anyone that knew Phyllis, knew that she was an amazing cook. She was known for her delicious pies, noodles and fried chicken among other things. She had a passion for sewing. Her kids and grandkids wore many clothes handmade by Phyllis and she spent many hours quilting. Most importantly, Phyllis loved her family. She was very proud of her children and her grandchildren. Phyllis was preceded in death by her husband Max; her parents, Wayne and Ermal McBroom; her in-laws, Bruce and Jessie Pollock; her brothers, Howard, Paul and her sister Joyce; and a very special grandson Joey Pyner; and great granddaughter Avery Ann Palmer. Left to cherish her memory are her son Marvin Pollock and wife Teresa of Humeston; daughter Ruth Riley and husband Russ of O’Fallon, MO; daughter Susan Pyner and husband Alfred of Corydon; grandchildren Scott Pollock, Bruce Pollock and Beth (Pollock) Palmer, Randi (Riley) Riggins, Ryan Riley and Rikki (Riley) Roesslein; Jama (Pyner) Rockhold; Megan Alley and Alaina Fry; great grandkids Kaliegh, Alex, Max, Eli, Rowen, Kendrick, Blake, Owen, Leah, Trevor, Alexis, Carson, Dylan, Ashley, Luke and Colby; special friend Doris Pollock; brothers Cloyd and Carrol McBroom and wife Donna and sister Marjorie Trembley; sister in law Marge McBroom and Karen Pollock and a host of other relatives and friends. Phyllis will be missed and always loved by all who knew her. Funeral service will be 11:00 am, Wednesday, December 28, 2022 at Thomas Funeral Home in Corydon. Interment will immediately follow at Corydon Cemetery. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service from 10-11:00 am.
