Peter and Dorothy St George February 22 2022

Peter and Dorothy’s Obituary Peter and Dorothy St. George There are “love” stories, and then there are LOVE Stories. This is a LOVE STORY, like one you would see in a movie but would never believe could happen in real life. Peter and Dorothy St. George were inseparable in life and remained inseparable in death. They went to be home in heaven with the Lord and with each other one day apart, on February 22, 2022 (2/22/22) and February 23, 2022, respectively, after 68 years of marriage. Their departure dates being one day apart is just a piece of this amazing LOVE STORY. Pete passed away on his 89th birthday so he could celebrate it in heaven, while Jesus took Dorothy home on the 23rd, exactly one month before her birthday on the 23rd. Our suspicion is that Pete, being a very persistent person, likely kept “asking” Jesus to unite him with his wife, as heaven would not be heaven without her. Pete and Dorothy were childhood sweethearts born in Chicago under challenging circumstances during the great depression. Pete was born on February 22, 1933, to Joseph and Caroline St. George, while Dorothy was born on March 23, 1935, to Herbert and Erna Hendrickson. They dated during their time in high school. Following this, Pete joined the Army for two years. Being in love, they married while on a weekend leave in 1953. After serving the remainder of his army duty, they lived in the upper apartment in their grandparent’s home, sharing a twin bed before moving to a house in Norridge. Pete was a carpenter apprentice while Dorothy worked at Milwaukee Road Railroad. A few years later, after having two children (Dan and Carrie), Pete and Dorothy decided to move to Addison to plant their family roots. Pete became a shop manager at Door Systems in Elk Grove, while Dorothy loved being a full-time mom. Pete was a “perfectionist” carpenter who only knew how to do things with excellence, while Dorothy juggled her multiple tasks with remarkable ease. Being born in the great depression, Pete and Dorothy never took anything for granted and were always thankful for the God’s blessings upon them and their family. They were extremely hard working and generous individuals who would give the shirt off their back for those in need. Pete was forever grateful for the Salvation Army, which was an important part of his childhood after his mother died when he was only 11 years old. Dorothy was the driving force in keeping the extended family in frequent contact by hosting weekend family meals. Their lives together were not without struggles and turmoil, however, it was their faith in Jesus and love for each other that carried them through the difficult times all throughout their 68-year marriage! Their move to Addison brought them to Addison Bible Church, where ironically, their daughter Carrie began her relationship with her eventual husband Rich all the way back in eighth grade. Pete frequently volunteered his carpentry skills for their church and other organizations to help build and/or repair facilities. Dorothy hosted numerous church youth group social gatherings at their house. Near the end of Pete and Dorothy’s lives, the romance continued. Although they both lived at Windsor Manor, Pete was able to live in his own apartment while Dorothy was in full time assisted living because of advanced Parkinson’s. Yet every day, Pete would walk all the way down from his residence building at Windsor to the Johnson Center to pick up Dorothy, bring her in her wheelchair to his apartment for breakfast, and then walk her all the way back. The staff all admired this daily routine and the ongoing love they shared for each other right until the end. They lived as one and died as one. “Until death do us part” did not last long for Pete and Dorothy. As said in the opening paragraph, that is a real LOVE STORY. Pete and Dorothy will lovingly be remembered by their daughter Carrie (Richard) Berg, their two grandchildren, Kristen (Samuel) Hallberg and Clayton (Julia) Berg, and their 5 great grandchildren: Henry, Ellie, Elizabeth, Winifred, and Dayne. Pete is survived by siblings: Rosemary, MaryAnne, and Joseph Jr. He was preceded in death by his son Dan, his sisters Annette and Sandra and his granddaughter Krizia. Dorothy was preceded in death by her son Dan and granddaughter Krizia. She was also preceded in death by her brothers, Herbert and Norman. A visitation will be held at Hultgren Funeral Home, 304 Main St., Wheaton, IL 60187, on Sunday February 27, 2022, from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM with a funeral service to follow at 4:00 PM.
